This is the full 8-31-09 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
On today’s program will hear from a group of striking workers on Chicago Southside. In May workers at SK Hand Tools, members of Teamsters Local 743, found out that for a month, their company had cut off their health care benefits, without informing them. Now many of the workers find themselves saddled with massive health care bills for services they thought were covered. The company’s refusal to bargain with workers over this and a mounting list of unfair labor practices forced the workers on Tuesday to work off the job.
Also on the program will hear about the National Nurses Organizing Committee (NNOC)’s fight for single payer, non-profit, universal health care from Dennis Kosuth, a nurse and member of NNOC at Stroger County Hospital here in Chicago. And on the international front will hear about a group of workers at the Kraft foods plant in Buenos Aires Argentina, who were illegally fired and are now occupying their plant.
